Steve grew up in Eagan Minnesota where he played premier soccer for Eagan Select, Dakota Rev and the St. Paul Blackhawks. He played high school soccer for Eagan High School where he was a two time all state player leading the Wildcats to 4 consecutive state tournaments. He was named the 2001 Pioneer Press/Star Tribune Player/Athlete of the Year. He tallied over 50 goals and 50 assists in his four-year varsity career which places him 13th in career points in the state of Minnesota. 3 Time All Conference/2 Time All State.

From high school Steve accepted a scholarship to Northern Illinois University where he played for 2 years, starting at defense and midfield before calling it a career after multiple concussions. Steve completed his education at the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2008, graduating with a degree in secondary education and a coaching minor.

He is currently the Director of Coaching for East Select Soccer and the New Girls Varsity Head Coach at Duluth East High School (previous Boys Varsity Head Coach).
